The griddle is great but after I seasoned it the griddle cooled and it had warped very bad. When I used it again the warp came out as it heated up. Any suggestions.

  3. 5 out of 5 Traditional grilling has evolved!

    Steve

A welcome alternative to traditional grills! Love the large surface area of the griddle, as it can handle much more than a similar-sized traditional grill. Much more efficient and versatile than traditional grilling. From burgers to pancakes to vegetables, this griddle can do it all (even at the same time!). The smooth surface is also easier to clean, so less time is spent preparing/cleaning and more time can be spent enjoying everything it can do! It folds up easily, so makes for a great addition to any tailgate.

  4. 5 out of 5 Griddle Replaces Two Grills at Work

    Mike Eckley (verified owner)

We purchased this griddle after watching several of Todd’s YouTube videos. We needed something better than the two older grills that we have at work for outdoor cooking events that we do while we move around town working. The griddle seems far more durable so we are hoping for a much longer service life. We cook outdoors for groups of 20-40 so we are excited. Happy Holidays

  5. 5 out of 5 Best Yard Sale Find Ever

    Carolyn

I found this griddle at a yard sale for under $100. The owners had neglected it terribly. The entire cooking surface was rusted. I spent about 3 hours cleaning and seasoning the top and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I purchased a cover for when it is not in use. I have used it to cook for a crowd – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each zone heats evenly and quickly and cleanup is a breeze. I will soon be purchasing accessories, like the grill top. I would love to see them add a pizza dome for the griddle.

I have had my Blackstone 36-inch griddle for about 6 months. I have owned every type of grill and smoker that you can think of and to be honest I have to say this is one of the best pieces of cooking equipment that I have ever purchased. Everyone that comes to my house and sees me cook on it wants one. You do not have to be a great cook to use this thing and make the most awesome food everything from pancakes to steaks to burgers with this griddle you can do it all. I am getting ready to purchase my second one. The only problem that I have with this griddle is the design of the grease trap. Sometimes if you clean it and put too much water or grease on the grill it will run down the leg instead of in the little pan. Other than that this griddle is outstanding. Super highly recommended.

Like the griddle so much I bought 2…well that’s not why I bought a second one. My family has a catering side business and we just couldn’t keep up with the demands for food with just one griddle. A 50″ would have came in handy that day. Great product!

I have cooked almost every meal on my Blackstone 36 since I got it about 3 months ago. I moved my grill t the back yard and haven’t used it. Everything is easier to cook and tastes better using the griddle. The neighbors are enjoying me cooking too.

This griddle is fantastic. I have all but quit using my grill. The griddle is so much more useful. Also like some of the other reviews the grease drain sucks. I fixed this by using a Pex coupling and JB Weld and made a down spout. Works great. Another trick I do is use those small aluminum loaf pans to catch the grease in. They are cheap and disposable.

We have been wanting this grill for quite some time. Finally purchased and couldn’t be happier. Haven’t had too much time to grill yet, but so far we have done steaks, hamburger sliders with cheese, bacon, and a potato/onion mix. Easy way to cook and food tastes great. Seasoning the grill according to the company’s directions was pretty simple. Glad we made the purchase.

    Wendy

We really like the griddle. Gives a large cooking area for breakfast and dinner. Really like when you can cook the whole meal at the same time using only one surface versus multiple pans. The reason I didn’t give it a 5 was because of the grease drain. Had to buy an adapter on Amazon to avoid it from running down front of griddle.

  21. 5 out of 5 Great Service

    fireflymom

I purchased this at a chain store needing it for an event the next day. Went to assembly it the next morning to find I did not have bottom tray. Store was 2 hrs away & I had not received very good service from them when I purchased it to begin with so my son thought he could do something to make it work for the moment. A couple of days later instead of driving the 2 hours & probably getting mad at the store I contacted Blackstone direct. Whitney answered my questions immediately – after proof of purchase in less than 2 hrs. I had FEDEX tracking # for tray being sent to me. In less than 4 days tray has arrived & been added to my griddle. Because of this awesome service I have ordered the grill & carrying case and will be ordering the cover once it is back in stock. I honestly did not realize you can still get this type of service anymore. I will highly recommend this company to everyone.

Absolutely love the 36″ griddle, have cooked a couple of meals already on it this month since getting it for my birthday. The only complaints I have is that the attachment that locks the legs was broke when it came in but does not hurt the integrity at all. The other is the same as most the drip tray leaks down the leg and it has the bead underneath.

Love it! This thing is fun to cook On! Had it 3 days and cooked 6 meals on it. Seasoned easily and takes about 5 minutes to clean once I’m done. If Blackstone can fix the drip tray issue (which is easily remedied by filling in hole and welding a point at end of channel) it would be perfect! Definitely going to get a lot of use in my back porch kitchen!!!

I’ve been wanting to get one of these Griddles for quite some time now. I finally got one and am completely 100% pleased with my investment. It was 107 degrees outside the day that I received it and I was already planning a camping trip to the lake… So I loaded the Griddle into the vehicle and went camping…It was so easy to put together and I used it that night to cook supper after seasoning it. As a matter of fact I cooked every meal at the campsite that weekend on the Griddle…High quality very pleased.

  30. 4 out of 5 Love the 36" griddle

    Billy Bennett

I love my 36″ griddle. I use it a ton. Formerly a chef and it’s a great home flat top. my only complaints (like most of the reviewers) is that the grease trough needs to be a bit deeper and need to fix the grease drain so that it actually drains into the catch pan. I use a grill brick and screen on mine to keep it clean and add seasoning after each cleaning (i.e. treat it like cast iron pan) and it has become virtually non-stick just like cast iron. Fix the grease issue and you have a perfect product.

I cut my griddle drain at the drain hole in a “V” shape and welded a similar thickness piece of steel just behind what was left of the drain hole at an angle so now the grease drains right into the grease catcher instead of draining back underneath and dripping down leg of griddle. Any metal shop could do this for you. I did it in my collision shop. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

    Mary Wildman

We absolutely love our new griddle. We usually cook for 20-30 people every weekend at our lake house. It makes cooking bacon a breeze. Our only complaint is the grease and drip pan. What a mess! My husband was able to make a small pipe to direct the grease into a large aluminum pan that sits on the side shelf. Now he is going to make one for our neighbors so that their griddle will stop leaking all over their deck. Hopefully they will redesign how it drips into the grease catcher.

Works great and seasoning is easy. 5- in stars. Why a minus is the drip pan is still too small and something it misses the pan when the hole in the end of the trough gets full of junk. This is my 2nd one. My old one finally died.

I just bought a 36″ after see a family a couple of weeks ago at a rv park in Galveston cooking on theirs. The regulator messed up once. I turned the bottle off and back on fixed the problem. I do have a problem with grease running down the leg. Makes a mess on the deck. I own a fab shop and will fix the problem. I will send a pic to how I fix it.

A quick and easy fix is to, take a paperclip, unfold it to make an L shape. Put the short leg through the hole and pull it back tight. The grease will follow the clip and run into the catch pan.

    Troy Schmidt

My wife and I between us have 7 kids and I wished that I had this many years ago. We just bought before the 4th so it got a great work out. This is very easy to set up, heat up quickly and moist importantly cook evenly every inch. This is a must have for anyone cooking large meals or entertaining. The only feed back that I would give to the design team is the grease drain. If you have any wind or if the unit itself is not quite level the grease will drain underneath the lip back towards grill before dripping into the grease catch. I would suggest placing some kind of pipe on the end to extend it to the middle of the grease catch. Great product I have already sold three for you.

This is an amazing griddle! We absolutely love it!! The ONLY issue we have is that the grease doesn’t drip into the pan, it drains back onto the underside of the griddle. It makes a bit of a mess. Otherwise, would give it a 5. But it is still a great griddle!!!

Really have enjoyed using the 36″ griddle that I bought last year. So far it has handled a full menu for every meal time! It was easy to season and it’s very accommodating with its large cooking area and 4 burners for precise temperature control. Love it so much that we also bought the 17″ griddle to take with us in the RV. Most definitely will continue to recommend the Blackstone line to all I can.

So far, I love my griddle! Did a proper seasoning of course. Putting it together was straightforward. I, with sore back and bad left knee :-), did it by myself, but 2 people would be easier. I do have one major gripe though, that is the drip channel. A lot of time, the grease or liquid would drip into outside the catch can, making a lot of mess. Blackstone needs to address this as soon as possible. I can be something as simple as bent down the drip tab at the end of the channel. My one other suggestion is make the griddle top’s height adjustable. Why? Cause it would make for a great stir fry since that needs high heat. A lot of my friends and family members are jealous of my griddle 🙂

I love the griddle. Second time I tried to turn it on, no propane coming out. Called customer service and a young lady walked me through the reset of the regulator. Still did not work. I told her we were having a large gathering for the 4th of July. This was on June 29th. I also told her my son that was in the Military was coming home July 1st. and that we had planned on using the griddle. I received a regulator the next day June 30th. Hooked it up and everything worked perfect. Thanks for making a great homecoming and a nice 4th.

Hey Marty, Thank you for the comment! One thing to try regarding your igniter, if you have a good battery in it with the positive side facing out towards you and you push the button and do not hear a clicking noise, then most likely the igniter needle is too close to the burner and it is grounding itself, try gently pushing the needle slightly away from the burner. If you do hear the clicking but it is not igniting, try gently bending the needle closer to the burner. If neither works, email me and I will send a new igniter! support@blackstoneproducts.com ATTN: VENESSA – Thanks!!

The 36″ griddle has a gas rail that is attached to each burner to heat the griddle evenly.

as a professional chef i love using a “flat top” (as we call them) at home. plenty of room, well built, easy to clean/maintain, heats up fast and does an all around great job. couldn’t give it 5 stars due to the grease management…..i’d like to see a deeper trough and the drip can be messy at times. a 1/2” tube welded to the bottom would solve this issue. love the portability and sturdiness of this unit……….first impressions are this is a hit!

Got the 28 inch at Black Friday pricing, $99 bucks!! Got it right after Christmas and just seasoned and used for the first time late March. Busy family. Followed on-line tutorial and blended with YouTube vids for seasoning. Piece of cake. Griddle is black and has a great finish on it. Maiden voyage was burgers on pretzel buns, outstanding!! Called about cover and the girl assured me it’s all good to handle weather even in Ohio…..heavier than my Weber Geniesis cover than that is 15 years old. It will be a fun summer of cooking. Would love pizza oven that fits griddle ala Camp……. Great product from a grilling lover!! 5 stars without blinking.

Thank you Jon for taking the time to review your griddle. They are a blast for sure. It is recommended that you tent the cover ever so slightly so that there will be no condensation underneath, an old bowl, Tupperware or even a volley ball under the cover is perfect. Awesome product, used mine for the first time. Regulator and ignition system is terrible. Got mine set up, could not get full flame. Assumed the regulator, hose or burner manifold was bad. I drove 40 miles one way to exchange it, got it back, same thing. I then assumed maybe something wrong with propane valve. So, I exchanged propane bottles, got home, same thing. I changed the hose/regulator assembly with an adjustable regulator/hose off of my fish fryer, shazam! Worked great after that.
If you buy get an adjustable regulator, the one sent is not adequate. The striker system has a lot to be desired as well, not a big enough spark to insure quick ignition or propane.

    • Venessa Pixton

We can easily send you a new regulator. Often times the air gates will need to be adjusted. We leave those adjustable so that each customer can set them to their preference. At the front of each burner there is a tiny silver screw that you can loosen and then there is a metal gate that can be slid open or closed. We use ours half closed on each burner, this helps the regulator to function at top performance providing a nice blue flame. Sometimes if we are out in the wind we close them a little more. I would definitely recommend checking those just for optimal griddle performance. If you need a picture sent to you please email us at support@blackstoneproducts.com. Also, provide your mailing address in that email and we can replace the regulator. Most times it is the air gates rather than the regulator. This would also affect its ability to ignite quickly. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to email or call 435-252-3030 x 1.

This is absolutely not the normal situation. It sounds to me like your safety feature in your regulator has been tripped. Here is a link to your instructional video for that regulator reset. https://www.blackstoneproducts.com/video/ Also, there is an air gate at the front of each burner. If you look up underneath the griddle at the front of the burners, there is a tiny silver screw that you can loosen and then slide the metal gate more open or closed. We typically have them at half closed. Once you tighten the screw, there is will stay until you adjust it again. This controls the air to gas ratio helping the flame to be strong. Please try those two steps and in the event that does not solve it for you please contact our customer service at 435-252-3030 x 1. The griddle top should get so hot that you can not touch it within minutes.

I am sorry to hear this. It does make me wonder if the problem lies in that the needle to too close to the burner. When it is too close, the igniter will ground itself not allowing it to fully spark. You can correct this by gently bending the needle further away from the burner and then with a AA battery in the igniter, you should be able to push the button for strong spark. Please call us if this did not solve it. We could also replace wires if needed. But most often moving the needle solves the problem. 435-252-3030 x 1

One suggestion that I would have is we travel all around to cook and we never can be sure of what the terrain will be, sometimes just simply putting a couple small washers under the left side of the peg legs will lift the griddle top just enough to force the oil to begin to gently roll to the right. Where the griddle top is so flat, this does seem to help. Let me know!

I clean my griddle and oil it and heat it when I’m done cooking. Let it cool down, cover the entire surface, edges too, go little extra with wax paper. I then place several big pouches of silicate(to absorb moisture) on top of wax paper, then cover with foil and crinkle all the edges to keep it in place. This keeps bug/ debris out and reduces risk of rusting anywhere. Then i put an old coffee can in the middle the place the cover over it. The coffee can is so any water will roll off and not pool up in the middle.
      I live this griddle!!
I wish Blackstone would make a half grill/griddle combo for the 36″! I’m usually cooking for at least six all the time.
But no complaints at all !!
Fajitas, shogun style, sausage, veggies, sliced ham, turkey, eggs, bacon, pancakes, steak, shrimp( cover with small stainless mixing bowl)….. getting fatter and happier by the minute!!

  63. 5 out of 5 Awesome Griddle!

    Al Myers

Love my Blackstone griddle. I’ve had it for about 6 weeks now and used it a 1/2 a dozen times, so now it has a nice coating to it. You actually cut your cooking time in half because you can cook everything at one time. No stage cooking. Clean up is a breeze too once you get sequence down. I bought a cover for it and since it’s only weather proof and not rain proof I use a 1/2 water-filled gallon milk bottle and set it in the middle of the griddle before putting the cover on to create a peak for any water to easily run off. A product suggestion though regarding the cover. The sewn-in straps are arrange so the short end is in the back of the grill. Would be nice if they reversed it and put it in the front (where the blackstone embroidery is), so you don’t have to maneuver my way to the back to clasp. I prefer not to turn the cover around, so I can proudly show the blackstone logo up front!!!.. Love the grill. Very impressed with it. Shortens cook and clean up time. Great flavor is now starting to come out of the well seasoned top.

Above is a link to how to season the griddle top. The first part of the video is rust removal so you can ignore that part because the second half of the video is so helpful in knowing how to season. As for cleaning, we just put extra oil on the griddle top while warm or hot and use a metal scraper to scrape any excess food off of the top. If something you could is really stubborn and stuck on, feel free to put warm water on the stuck food with the griddle top hot and it will steam up and you can easily scrape that off. Then be sure and put a thin layer of oil down after to keep it protected.

Customers have sent me pictures of their griddles mounted without the legs in outdoor kitchens. You must have 4 inches of clearance around the unit for ventilation purposes. The manual recommends 36″ from any combustible materials. We do not test the griddle in this manner however, so it would void your 90 day warranty.

Griddle is great. Grease trough doesn’t drain if it is level. Put boards under wheels to make the grease run to the can. But when it goes into the hole, it rides back the trough. Poor design. Other than that, absolutely love it.

Try folding a paper clip in the shape of a capital T and putting down the grease trough hole. The grease will follow this right down into the cup. We have to do this a lot because we travel and cook and we never quite know the terrain that we will be on. It makes such a difference. Some customers told me that they also use small washers on the left side griddle pegs to lift it ever so slightly giving it a small slant toward the cup. I hope this helps.

I have tried both adding washers and the paper clip trick. Neither really solved the problem when dealing with large amounts of grease, like after cooking bacon. The drain simply can not handle lots of grease.
Here’s what I find works for me. I have mine were the grease runs to the rear, with it this way I can scoop up most of the grease with a spatula into a stainless bowl and save or discard as needed. The small amount left I scrap to the front into the drain trough.

We have a 36″er and love it but we have the same grease issue. Ms. Pixton a new top design is not needed, a new grease catch tray design is. Reshape the grease catch tray into a backward L shape with the bottom of the L going under the grease trough drip hole and past it by about two inches, i.e..If you were to look down at the grease catch tray sitting on a table it would have the shape of a backward L . and I believe the problem would be solved. Much cheaper re-do than a new top design.

You mention Pre Seasoned griddle on the 36″ model – what type of coating? Thank you

    (0) (0)

Something wrong with this post? Thanks for letting us know. If you can point us in the right direction...

    • AdminVenessa Pixton

Thank you for your inquiry. The griddle top is cold rolled steel that has been sandblasted and then dipped in a soy oil to protect it during shipping. It also provides a base seasoning. You can rinse the griddle top prior to use. Then as you begin the actual seasoning your griddle top should blacken up quickly, that is the goal. So the griddle top actually has no coating other than being dipped in soy oil.

    • Venessa Pixton

Thanks for reaching out to us Kim. The griddle tops are exactly the same for our griddles. They are made of cold-rolled steel. The only difference between the stainless steel unit and the black powder-coat unit is the base cosmetically, the tops are identical. I hope that clears up any confusion.

FAQ's

Q. What is the difference between the 36” Black & 36” Stainless Steel Griddles?
A. The only difference is the cosmetic of the bases. One is steel that has black powder coating, the other is Stainless steel.Everything else is the same. The griddle tops are both cold-rolled steel.

Q. What is the griddle top made of?
A. The griddle top is made of cold-rolled steel.

Q. Can I cut directly on the griddle top?
A. Yes, you can. Cutting on the griddle top will not harm it.

Q. My igniter is not working, what could that be?
A. (1) The igniter on the griddle requires a AA battery that is not included. If the igniter worked previously and now has stopped working, try a new AA battery. If you have a working battery in the igniter and (2) the igniter does not click, try gently moving the igniter needle slightly away from the burner so that it is not grounding itself, (3) the igniter does spark but will not light the burners, try gently moving the needle slightly closer to the burner. The ideal spot for the needle is 1/8-1/4” from the burner. If none of those steps solve the ignition problem, call Blackstone customer service at (435) 252-3030 ext#1.

Q. Why is my griddle not getting up to temperature? Or Why aren’t the flames on my burners consistent?
A. (1) First thing to check is the regulator reset. All regulators come with a safety feature to slow the release of propane gas in the event the propane tank is left on. To reset the regulator, turn everything off, including the propane tank. Unhook the regulator from the propane tank. Wait about 15 minutes. This should allow the regulator the time to reset. Then hook the regulator back up to the propane tank and slowly turn on the propane. (2) A second option to try is the air gate adjustment. Each burner has an air gate to control the air to gas ratio. There is a tiny silver screw that you can loosen and a metal gate that you can slide open or closed. It is recommended to start at half closed. Once you find the setting you like you can tighten the screw and it will stay like that. (3) The final option is that the regulator may be defective. If you have tried the other two options and this has not solved the issue, please contact Blackstone customer service at (435) 252-3030 ext#1.

Q. What is this orange brown discoloration on my griddle top?
A. The griddle top is made from cold-rolled steel. It is sandblasted and then dipped in a thick soy oil to preseason and protect it during the shipping process. Rust is very neon in color. This soy oil is brownish orange in color. We recommend you rinse the top off prior to use and dry it off. You will not be able to wash this oil off, nor will you want to as it aids in the seasoning
process. Now begin the seasoning process.

Q. What if my griddle top arrives and has some scratches on it?
A. Each griddle top is unique. Slight scratches are normal and will be filled in by the seasoning process. The goal is to get your griddle top shiny and black through seasoning process. This will cover any slight imperfections in the steel top.

Q. What is the best way to properly season my griddle top?
A. We have videos showing this seasoning process on our website. We recommend you wash off the griddle top and dry it well. Then with the griddle top cold, spread a thin layer of oil all over the griddle top. Then turn the griddle on until it begins to smoke. (The temperature and time of smoking will vary for the different types of oil.) You should allow it to smoke for 20-25 minutes or until it stops smoking. Then turn the temperature back down and apply another thin layer of oil on the griddle top. (Be careful as the top could still be a little warm to the touch.) Repeat that process 3-4 times. The griddle top will eventually become black and shiny.

Q. What can I do to avoid grease running down the front of my griddle?
A. We are continually working to improve the grease management. A couple of tricks that we have found to be helpful are putting washers under the left peg legs to slight lift the griddle top toward the grease catch side. We also have taken a paperclip and folded it into the shape of a capital T and put it down through the grease hole. The grease will follow the paperclip down into the grease cup.
